The reasons why JACAVA London have elected NOT to include these chemicals:-
Formaldehyde:
Formaldehyde is classified by The International Agency for Research on Cancer as a known human carcinogen. Linked to asthma, neurotoxicity, developmental toxicity, Formaldehyde is also known to cause nasal cancer.
Camphor:
Nails consist of the outer layers of the epidermis or ‘the skin’ and Camphor is swiftly absorbed through the skin, where it can travel on to and across the placenta and where it has been implicated in neonatal death (death of newborn children within the first 28 days of life) and also foetal death (death of the unborn child). In addition to miscarriage, other adverse effects from ingestion and absorbing through the skin, can include convulsions, hallucinations and can even lead to coma.
Toluene:
The US Environmental Protection Agency has designated Toluene as hazardous waste. Reactions to exposure range from inhalation, symptoms of drowsiness, headaches and dizziness; exposure to high doses can cause impairment to memory, hearing and vision; Toluene is known to cause asthma in previously healthy people; Toluene is toxic to reproduction; in the lymphocytes of workers exposed to toluene, aberrations to chromosomes (DNA structural changes, which can lead to Down’s Syndrome) have been reported.
Parabens:
All Parabens can cause contact allergies and skin sensitization. Specific parabens have been located intact in the breast tissue of women diagnosed with breast cancer.
Phthalates:
Exposure of the foetus in the womb, to oestrogenic chemicals and teratogens such as Phthalates, has been connected to fertility problems, child deformities and cancer.
DBP (Di-Butyl Pthalate):
Exposure of the foetus in the womb, to oestrogenic chemicals such as Dibutyl phthalate, has been connected to cancer and fertility problems.
Formaldehyde Resin/Tosylamide:
This chemical is known to cause contact dermatitis.
Xylene:
A central nervous system depressant, Xylene can cause eye, nose, skin and throat irritation, memory problems, discomfort to the gastro-intestinal tract and potentially effect the kidney and liver. Considered a possible carcinogen by The International Agency For Research on Cancer Scientific Publication Series.
Ethyl Tosylamide:
Banned in the EU from personal care products, Ethyl Tosylamide has raised significant concerns over its antibiotic resistance properties.
Lead:
The International Agency for Research on Cancer has labelled this chemical as a potential human carcinogen. Lead is considered to be a known carcinogen and reproductive toxicant by the State of California Environmental Protection Agency (Proposition 65 List of Carcinogens). Lead can cause blood and central nervous system effects, skin and eye irritation. It is toxic by inhalation, ingestion, and absorption through the skin. Lead presents a possible risk of harm to unborn children and impaired fertility. Owing to its carcinogenicity and reproductive toxicity, Lead has been banned from cosmetic products in Canada and the EU.
9-Free Ingredients
We do not include the 9 chemicals that are known to cause serious health problems. Our formulations do not include the big 3-free and 5-free nail varnish chemicals, such as Formaldehyde, Camphor, DBP, Toluene. Being 9-free, however, the JACAVA London brand also do not incorporate Formaldehyde Resin, any Phthalates, Parabens, Xylene, Ethyl Tosylamide, Lead or Animal Ingredients, which makes JACAVA London a uniquely 9-free nail varnish brand.
